Since 2011, the team hasn't placed lower than third in the West Coast Conference. The Cougars' tournament appearance record includes two NCAA Final Four games and one AIAW Final Four game. The team is currently coming off a fantastic winning season during which many of its players garnered top honors, including seniors Mary Lake and McKenna Miller. Both earned AVCA All-America recognition. Lake was also named to the Senior CLASS Award All-American Second Team. What is the BYU Cougars women's volleyball team's home arena?The BYU Cougars women's volleyball team holds court in the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah. It was built in 1951 and has a seating capacity of 5,000, which makes it one of the largest volleyball arenas in college sports.
What are some accomplishments of the Cougars' head coach?Heather Olmstead joined the Cougars as head coach in 2015. Her win-loss record is nearly perfect and has earned the Cougars four first-place conference rankings plus one second place. In her time at the helm, the Cougars have never lost more than two conference games in a season, and she's gotten the team to the Sweet Sixteen three times and to the Final Four once. Before coming to BYU, Olmstead worked as an assistant volleyball coach at Utah State from 2003–2005, where she was key in helping the Aggies make it to the NCAA Tournament in 2005. Olmstead also worked as an assistant coach at the University of Utah from 2006–2010 and as head coach at the IVA HP Select Team in Florida in 2010. As an undergraduate, Olmstead was a four-year libero at Utah State and left ranked ninth overall at the school in career digs. She set the single season record for digs as well.
What other BYU Cougars coaches have notable histories?David Hyte began working with the Cougars in 2014 as an assistant. In 2018, he was promoted to associate head coach. His valuable work as the defensive coordinator, specifically with the middle blockers, led to the Cougars earning a win-loss record of 174-23 during his tenure. Also, during his time there, the Cougars ranked in the top 25 with regard to blocks every season. As a player, Hyte donned the BYU men's volleyball uniform for two years in 2003 and 2004, during which time the Cougars came in second and then first place in the national championship.
Have any Cougar women's volleyball alumnae been inducted into the BYU Hall of Fame?Nina Puikkonen Mortensen was inducted into the BYU Hall of Fame in 2015. She began her tenure as a Cougar in 1998. During her first season, she led the country in blocking with a 2.17 block-per-set average. After a stellar four years at BYU, she went on to play for the US National Team.
