In a dazzling and provocative performance best suited for mature audiences, Cabaret tells the story of American writer Cliff Bradshaw in 1930s Berlin. As the Nazis gain power in Germany, Cliff arrives to write his novel. He meets Ernst, a German and Nazi, who helps him find lodging. Cliff also agrees to give Ernst lessons in English. Soon after he settles in, he finds himself at the Kit Kat Klub.
There, he meets the alluring British Performer, 19-year-old Sally Bowles. After a racy dance, he asks her home with him. She declines. The next day, as Cliff finishes a lesson with Ernst, Sally shows up. Fired by the cabaret owner, her boyfriend, she moves in. Together, Cliff and Sally set out to enjoy all the decadence Berlin has to offer them. They fall in love.
The Nazi rise to power continues. As Cliff does a delivery for Ernst for a little extra cash, he realizes the dangerous political situation in Germany. Cliff decides to leave and urges Sally to join him. She refuses. Their relationship collapses as she returns to the Cabaret. As Cliff leaves, the musical questions who tomorrow truly belongs to and if it is all worth it.
This production brings Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall’s Tony Award-winning show to the stage. The musical welcomes audience members to “come hear the music play” at the infamous Kit Kat Klub with famous numbers like “Wilkommen,” “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” and “Cabaret.” Critics around the U.S. continue to rave about the show. The story for Cabaret comes from a short novel by Christopher Isherwood called Goodbye to Berlin, written in 1939.
