Cabaret St. Louis Tickets
The Roundabout Theatre Company presents Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall’s dazzling and provocative Tony Award-winning production of Cabaret. The story begins as American writer Cliff Bradshaw comes to Berlin to write his novel. He meets Ernst, a local German who helps him find a place to stay. A little later, he heads out into Berlin and walks into Berlin’s seedy Kit Kat Klub. There, 19 year-old Sally Bowles performs a flirtatious number. Cliff asks her home and she says no. The next day as Cliff finishes an English lesson with Ernst, Sally appears on his doorstep. Fired by the cabaret owner, her boyfriend, she moves in. Cliff and Sally fall in love.
The Nazi rise to power continues throughout the play. As Cliff does a delivery for Ernst, now a member of the Nazi Party, he realizes the coming danger. Cliff urges Sally to flee with him. She refuses and instead returns to the Kit Kat Klub. Cliff leaves Berlin as the production draws to a close pondering whether decadent living can escape the reality of the coming darkness.
A show with content best suited for mature viewers, the musical brings the notorious Kit Kat Klub to life on stage. Famous musical numbers like “Wilkommen,” “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” and “Cabaret” welcome audience members to “come hear that music play.”
Critics from Chicago to Houston rave about the show. The Chicago Tribune calls it a “’Cabaret’ with fresh ways to make us squirm.” According to the Houston Chronicle, it’s a “harrowing, heartbreaking show that will stay with you.”
