Camel: decade defining sound
Progressive rock band Camel originally formed as a trio in Surrey the early 1970s, led by frontman Andrew Latimer. The threesome soon expanded to include more musicians with less common instrumental skills and the group began to polish their unique sound, combining lilting guitars, dreamy flutes and psychedelic synthesizers for a spaced out folk rock vibe.
In 1974, the band released one of their most celebrated albums, Mirage, a concept record packed full of epic tracks including "The White Rider", a critically acclaimed song based on J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. They followed it up with their magnificent opus The Snow Goose in 1975, a highly stylised concept album which soared into the UK Top 40 and achieved acclaim across Europe and further afield; particularly Japan. The album is considered one of the masterpieces of symphonic rock and it paved the way for a long line of successful albums including Moonmadness in 1976 Rain Dances in 1977 and Nude in 1981.
Camel continued to sell albums in between periods of hibernation, including the critically acclaimed live album Pressure Points in 1984. Over the years, the sensational symphonic rock band has seen many line-up changes but throughout it all, frontman Andrew Latimer has remained a firm fixture. They still perform quality music today and regularly tour the UK, so grab your Camel tickets now at StubHub UK and see the legendary group live when they next hit the road.
