Children of Bodom tour dates
One of Finland's best selling artists of all time, with more than 250,000 records sold in their homeland alone, Children of Bodom has been bringing their unique brand of so-called melodic death metal to fans since the early '90s. Comprised of Alexi Laiho, Janne Wirman, Henkka Seppala, Jaska Raatikainen and Daniel Freyberg, the band's albums regularly debut at No. 1 on the Finnish charts, and they have also attracted international attention with their raw, edgy sound.
Children of Bodom's background
In 1993, Alexi Laiho and Jaska Raatikainen formed the band that would become Children of Bodom. Their debut album, 1998's Something Wild, kicked off an era of rapid and expanding success for the band. After a year of extensive touring throughout Europe, they released their sophomore offering, Hatebreeder, in 1999. They followed this in 2000 with Follow the Reaper, their first to receive gold certification in Finland.
Children of Bodom's rise to fame
The band's true turning point came in 2003 with the release of Hate Crew Deathroll, leading to Children of Bodom being named Band of the Year at the Finnish Metal Music Awards. Their first world tour followed, attracting thousands of fans and selling out venues around the globe. That tour was of major value in expanding the band's fan base, including a broader North American audience.
In 2005, their album Are You Dead Yet? earned them their first spot on the Billboard 200. Blooddrunk and Skeletons in the Closet, released in 2008 and 2009 respectively, also earned slots on the chart, with Blooddrunk rising all the way to No. 22.
Their most recent album, I Worship Chaos (2015), achieved No. 92 on the Billboard 200.
