Chrisette Michele is a Grammy award-winning R&B soul singer who is known for her jazz-inspired vocals. Born in New York, Michele has worked with such artists as Jay Z, Kanye West and John Legend, in addition to headlining tours at major venues.
In 2016, Chrisette Michele tour dates included stops in LA, San Francisco and Seattle in support of her 2016 release, Milestone.
Chrisette Michele first started singing gospel at the tender age of four. However, she found inspiration to pursue music as a career after one of her teachers gifted her a CD that had "The Girl from Ipanema" on it. Music education at Five Townes College (Long Island) followed and eventually led to gigs at local bars.
It was at one such performance that India.Arie noticed Michele and invited her to be an opening act. Soon after, the record label Def Jam hired her to write for artists like Jay Z and Ghostface Killah. She released her debut effort, I Am, in 2007, which peaked at No. 7 on hip-hop charts. The album featured her collaborations with John Legend, Babyface and will.i.am.
Chrisette Michele consolidated her mainstream success with her second album, Epiphany (2009). The album sold more than 80,000 copies in its first week and topped the Billboard 200. She continued her success with Let Freedom Reign (2010), which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
Better (2013), her fourth studio album, received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album category. Her 2016 effort, Milestone, charted at No. 5 on Billboard's R&B albums chart.
Michele's collaboration with will.i.am, which resulted in "Be OK" on her debut album, is the singer's biggest hit. The up-tempo song won a Grammy for Best Urban Performance. The single peaked at No. 61 on Billboard's Hot R&B chart. Michele's other charting singles include "If I Have My Way," "Best Of Me," "Love Is You" and "Epiphany." "Epiphany" reached No. 89 on the Billboard 100, marking Michele's first solo foray onto the charts.
Michele has frequently collaborated with other hip-hop artists. Some of her best-known collaborations include "Let Us Live" with the Game, "Lost One" with Jay Z and "Still Dreaming" with Kanye West.
She has also appeared on the CW show Girlfriends and the reality show R&B Divas: Los Angeles.
Chrisette Michele performed at UNCF's 30th anniversary of "An Evening of Stars." The event was a tribute night to Patti LaBelle. The annual event saw performances by such artists as Big Daddy Kane, Yolanda Adams and Sarah Dash. Michele has also headlined tours, including the Art of Love Tour alongside Raheem DeVaughn.
