Cinderella
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella is a Tony Award-winning musical that brings the magic of the classic fairy tale to life on stage. Richard Rodgers composed the music and Oscar Hammerstein wrote the book and lyrics for their first “musical made for television” in 1957. The musical features some of the duo’s most beloved songs, such as "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible" and "Ten Minutes Ago."
The updated theatrical production is directed by Mark Brokaw (The Lyons, After Miss Julie), choreographed by Josh Rhodes (Company, The Film) and has a new book by Douglas Carter Beane (Lysistrata Jones, Sister Act). The stage version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella debuted on Broadway on January 25, 2013. The story is based upon the French version of Cinderella, Cendrillon, also called The Little Glass Slipper (La Petite Pantoufle de Verre) written by Charles Perrault in 1697.
This romantic musical has been delighting audiences with its contemporary take on the original story. It features an incredible orchestra, exceptionally talented cast, beautiful costumes, breathtaking scenery and all the moments you love and remember most—including the magical pumpkin and the precious glass slipper, as well as some unexpected new twists.
The Story
Cinderella is a popular and much-loved fairy tale about an orphaned young girl who lives with her wicked stepmother and two very jealous stepsisters. She is mistreated and belittled as she serves her ungrateful step-family. When Cinderella goes from wearing rags and scrubbing floors to wearing a gown and dancing with a handsome prince at a royal ball, audiences are shown in a dazzling manner that dreams can indeed come true.
