About the Musical Cinderella
Created by the famous writing team of Rodgers & Hammerstein, this Broadway musical is based loosely on Hammerstein’s 1957 book by the same name, but also includes a new book written specifically for Broadway by Douglas Carter Beane. The two-act production finally reached Broadway in 2013 and successfully secured a 2014 North American tour after years of TV reboots and film adaptations.
The story centers around a young servant girl named Ella. After the death of her beloved father, her wicked stepmother and stepsisters give her the not-so-kind nickname of Cinderella, as her clothes are filthy from fireplace cinders. Dreaming of a better, kinder world, Ella is soon visited by her Fairy Godmother. After attending the Prince’s Ball in disguise and meeting Prince Topher, Ella falls madly in love but realizes the expert dragon-slayer would never love a servant girl like her. The tale’s mystery, adventure, romance and drama are all wrapped up in humor. Cinderella is sure to entertain and inspire audiences.
