CJ Ramone Tickets
Probably mostly associated for his bass work with the American punk band, the Ramones, CJ Ramone is a singer and solo performer as well as a bass guitarist. Born in 1965 in the Queens borough of New York City, Ramone was named Christopher Joseph Ward by his parents, but took on the stage name Ramone, in common with the other members of his band. As well as his large back catalogue of punk rock songs, Ramone is known for his heavy rock styling, which extends into heavy metal from time to time.
Ramone plays bass guitar in a highly rhythmic way and he won many admiring comments for his style, especially when working in a rhythm section along with Marky or Richie Ramone, the Ramones' drummers. He is often seen playing a Fender Precision bass guitar but occasionally uses a Fender Jazz.
CJ Ramone's early career
Ramone joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating from high school in 1983. He had followed the career of Dee Dee Ramone for a while, before he was recruited to join in with the Ramones. After Ramone was recruited by Dee Dee Ramone, he toured extensively with the group. Its youngest member, CJ Ramone was credited with giving the band a more youthful feel. He took lead vocals on a number of the band’s better-known later songs.
For a while after the Ramones had split up, CJ Ramone played alongside Dee Dee and his wife Barbara Zampini in a band that was variously known as the Remains and the Remainz, a play on words on ‘the Ramones’. In 1992, Ramone put together his own group of heavy rockers, named Los Gusanos. During this project, the bassist went by the name of Chris Ward, dropping any obvious affiliation with his more famous group. Initially a side project, Los Gusanos became Ramone’s main focus in the years after the Ramones ceased to be a touring band. Los Gusanos is probably best known for its cover version of “I’d Love to Change the World”, originally a song by Ten Years After.
CJ Ramone's other musical output
Ramone also played for a spell in a group called guitar Pete’s Axe Attack. In this band, Ramone played as a guitarist and he recorded two albums with the group. The musician has also released a number of solo works. His 2012 album was called Reconquista, for example. His follow-up work was entitled Last Chance to Dance. This work was given separate release dates in Europe and North America, both of them in 2014. American Beauty was one of his more recent works, which came out in 2017.
