Since 2012 the tournament's championship rounds have been held at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York while four of the 12 teams participating serve as hosts during the opening rounds. This year the first rounds of the Coaches v Cancer Classic will take place in mid-November with Duke, Temple, UNLV, and Stanford serving as the host universities. The semifinals and finals will be held on November 21st and 22nd at the Barclays Center. Coaches v Cancer Classic History
The Coaches v Cancer Classic trace its roots back to 1995 when the popular tournament got its start as an exhibition at Madison Square Garden. The first champion of the Coaches v Cancer Classic was crowned in 1997 when Princeton took home the title. Since then many of the most elite programs in the country have won at the Coaches v Cancer Classic including Temple, Stanford, Kansas, Arizona, Syracuse, Florida, Maryland,Memphis, Duke, Syracuse Pittsburgh, Mississippi State, Florida State, and Michigan State. The tournament has raised millions for cancer research and is a favorite both among fans and the coaches and players who participate in the event each year. The venue may have changed in 2012 after the old tournament at Madison Square Garden was bought by 2K Sports and the proceeds from the tournament were given to the Wounded Warrior Project. The first Coaches v Cancer Classic held at the Barclays Center was won by Florida State in a 73-66 victory over St. Joseph's. The first two years the tournament was merely a showcase and did not have a champion, since then there has been a champion crowned every year except for in 2002 and 2003 when the event reverted to a showcase once again.
