Progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria formed in 1995 having released two albums and an EP before even getting signed. The group rose to fame with its second and third studio albums, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 and Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. Coheed and Cambria have won a few awards, including a Kerrang! and a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award.

Coheed and Cambria began its formation around 1995 and went through a few names until 2001, when it created its logo under its current name. In addition to being the band's frontman, Claudio Sanchez wrote science fiction comics which are the basis for the storyline of some of the band's albums. Coheed and Cambria's first studio release, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, came in 2002. Popularity rose with the next release in 2003 entitled In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, which was certified gold, and the first album to appear on the Billboard charts, peaking at No. 52. The attention from the album got Coheed and Cambria signed to the larger label Columbia Records where it would release its most successful album thus far. The 2005 album Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes Of Madness features "Welcome Home," which is easily the group's most popular song. The single was featured in Rock Band, the animated movie 9. They followed up with Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow in 2007. The album debuted at No. 6 and landed Coheed and Cambria a headlining role at Bamboozle. Year of the Black Rainbow followed in 2009. The story of the album is a prequel to the group's debut album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Coheed and Cambria's next release would be a double album released in two parts. The Afterman: Ascension released in 2012 and The Afterman: Descension in 2013. The eighth studio album came in 2015, and The Color Before the Sun was the first album not connected to the storyline of Sanchez's comics The Armory Wars. Most recently Coheed and Cambria released Vaxis - Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures in 2018 which goes back to the The Armory Wars storyline.

Travis Stever is the other band member who was part of the original line-up, and he performs on guitars, specifically the steel lap guitar and the mandolin. Josh Eppard has been the drummer on and off. He's been with the band permanently since 2011 but made his Coheed and Cambria debut back in 2000. Zach Cooper is the newest member having joined in 2012 to perform on bass and cello. All of the instrumentalists provide backing vocals.
