Cold Waves Tickets
Every year, Cold Waves Festival showcases the best of Chicago's industrial music scene with a weekend of throbbing beats, distorted vocals and transgressive guitar riffs. This is a festival for fans of experimental soundscapes and hardcore electro artists -- a celebration of the innovative and the subversive. Cold Waves tickets attract party-goers who are fed up of commercialized, sanitized music festivals.
Cold Waves background
Cold Waves Festival started back in 2012 as a tribute to Chicago musician and sound guy Jamie Duffy. The inaugural event was only a one-day affair with just 14 bands. Still, the festival proved popular, so it returned the following year. Soon, Cold Waves grew from a small memorial gig into a major music festival, attracting revelers from across the Midwest and beyond. The event now takes place over multiple days and features several stages.
As well as the non-stop no-holds-barred music, Cold Waves also raises funds and awareness for important causes. In memory of Jamie Duffy, festival organizers campaign for suicide prevention charities. These include Darkest Before Dawn, an organization that provides counseling and other resources to people who work in the late-night service industry.
Visitors who attend Cold Waves can expect the best in experimental industrial music across several stages. There are also food trucks, merch stands and other activities. All the action takes place at the Metro and Smartbar -- two live venues that serve beer and cocktails. Getting to the festival is easy: the venues are within walking distance of Wrigley Field.
Cold Waves history
The inaugural Cold Waves festival featured an impressive roster of alternative and underground acts. These included Chemlab, Acumen Nation and Final Cut. Special guest DJ Zoltar also made an appearance with an energetic set that wowed guests.
At the second festival, which took place in 2013, bands like Bile and Evil Mothers took the stage. Gofight and The Damage Manual were among the other industrial acts that played to packed-out crowds. However, it was thrash band Prong that generated many of the headlines. The group played some of their most popular hits, including "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck," "Rude Awakening," "Broken Piece," "Face Value" and "Ultimate Authority."
Cold Waves 2016 was the biggest event yet, with more acts than ever before. Acts included Chant, PolyFuse and The Black Queen. The event also showcased several local artists that fuse electro and ambient sounds. Dead When I Found Her performed one of the most popular sets. The electro-industrial group from Portland, Ore., played tracks such as "Spitting Seeds," "Fixer Fixed" and "Expiring Time."
