The story behind Come From Away is inspired by the true story of 9/11. Many Americans know by heart every minute detail of that day — within America, that is. Victims outside the country are rarely known and discussed when the topic is brought up. As the attacks of 9/11 proceeded and people figured out what was going on, airspace throughout the United States was immediately closed. All airborne airplanes were immediately grounded and made to land wherever they could, with the exception of special circumstances such as the president's Air Force One. This forced Newfoundland’s Gander International Airport, among other locations, to harbor 38 planes and bear the ire of 6,579 passengers from around the world. In light of this, the residents of Gander and several other nearby Canadian towns stepped up to help those passengers find their way again.Where can I see the Come From Away tour?
