The Constellation Room - An Intimate Concert Venue

Located within the Observatory, a larger concert facility, the Constellation Room provides a more intimate setting for local bands and smaller touring acts. It is considered among Orange County's premier music venues.

Constellation Room History

The history of the Constellation Room begins with The Observatory, within which it is housed. The Observatory got its start in August 2011, when new owners Jon Reiser and Courtney Michaelis purchased the building formerly known as the Galaxy Concert Theatre, rebranding it as The Observatory and infusing it with new energy. During the revitalization that followed in the next few years, Reiser and Michaelis added the Constellation Room as a special space that would be set up to accommodate smaller acts, such as local bands, in a more intimate setting.

The first show at the Observatory took place on September 12, 2011 and was headlined by Foster the People. Other early acts included Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Local Natives and Young the Giant, all of which helped put the new Observatory (and, by extension, the Constellation Room) on the map. Patrons overwhelmingly agree that ever since the property changed management, the quality of musical acts has dramatically increased.

Constellation Room Events

The Constellation Room hosts musical guests, generally featuring up-and-coming or local bands in its smaller event space. The roster of past performers includes names such as Off with Their Heads, Shannon and the Clams, Houndmouth, Kehlani, Berner, Lovely Bad Things and the Audacity. Often, the Constellation Room is used to host month-long residencies or local band showcases.

While the Observatory can hold 550 patrons, the Constellation Room is somewhat cozier at a cap of 300 attendees. Tickets are typically sold as general admission only. The venue may be small, but it boasts an excellent sound system that allows patrons to soak up the texture of each note.

Santa Ana, California

Beyond the Constellation Room is a quintessential Southern Californian city begging to be explored. Visitors may be interested in the artistic offerings of the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, notably the Asia Pacific wing and the works of local Californians. The Lyon Air Museum, which features historic aircraft and other vehicles, is another popular local attraction, as is the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park, which, according to the wishes of the founder, is required to contain at least 50 species of monkeys at all times. Visitors looking for other opportunities to enjoy live shows will enjoy visits to the Yost Theater or the House of Blues Restaurant & Bar in nearby Anaheim.

Although the venue had switched hands, the marquee sign for the Galaxy Concert Theatre remained on the building for some time.
