Coventry Butts Park Arena

A multi-purpose stadium in the heart of the city, Coventry Butts Park Arena is principally a rugby football venue. Home to Coventry Rugby Football Club since the arena was built, the stadium consists of one main stand on the eastern side of the pitch. This stand is capable of accommodating up to 3,000 seated spectators and is also home to numerous conference and banqueting facilities which are used on match days for entertaining visitors. As well as its main use as a rugby union venue, Coventry Butts Park Arena has been the home of the Coventry Bears - the city's rugby league side - since the start of the 2004-05 season. A venue for football matches too, the arena has hosted varsity day matches between the two local student rugby teams from Coventry University and the University of Warwick in the past.

Coventry Butts Park Arena's history

The stadium was constructed in 2004 and initially had a temporary West stand which faced the permanent one that still remains in place. This structure was taken down at the end of the 2005-06 season, reducing the overall capacity of Coventry Butts Park Arena by in the region 1,000 spectators. Located in the Spon End area of Coventry, close to the city centre, the arena was formerly used by the city's American football team, known as the Coventry Jets. The directors of Coventry United, a non-league football club, made the decision in 2017 to move to Butts Park for the commencement of the 2017-18 season for both their men's and women's home fixtures.

As a venue that is utilised for sporting events in the main, Coventry Butts Park Arena is also put to a number of other uses. It is an occasional concert venue, for example, booked by the likes of the hit-making West Midlands reggae outfit, UB40. The arena has function rooms which have the capacity for up to 1,400 guests to be accommodated making it popular for corporate events and weddings. The venue has five licensed bars which are spread out over four separate event facilities, named Arena 1, Arena 2, the Centurion's Suite and the Platinum Suite. The venue offers in-house catering facilities which range in culinary styles. The arena also holds occasional comedy nights open to all as well as its private functions.
