Eagles soar under Roy Hodgson
Though securing mathematical survival was a great feat for Palace, it came after a traumatic start to the 2017/18 season. Just seven months previously, Hodgson had taken over at a club that had lost its first seven league games without scoring a single goal. Prior to 2017/18, no club had survived in the Premier League after attaining such a dismal record, but he simplified Palace's play with a 'back to basics' approach that worked wonders. By Christmas, Hodgson's men were out of the relegation zone and en-route to survival. In the summer of 2018, Hodgson proved his managerial credentials by keeping Zaha at the club, along with fringe England international Andros Townsend, both of whom draw fans to buy Crystal Palace FC tickets with every flick of the ball. There were also a number of additions with the potential to excite. Solid Senegalese midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate added some steely physicality to the Palace midfield, while exciting midfield talent Max Meyer joined from FC Schalke with the aim of potentially acting as a support striker. Loanee Jordan Ayew was a new addition in the final third, with the centre-forward being crucial in keeping Swansea away from mathematical relegation as long as possible in the season prior.
Crystal Palace FC - Premier League founders
Crystal Palace FC will always have the distinction of being one of the first twenty-two teams that participated in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992. Around that time, the club had gained a reputation for nurturing talent, with Ian Wright being the Eagles' ace in the pack during the late 1980s and early 1990s. His move to Arsenal, and Palace's failure to find an adequate replacement, was a major factor in the Eagles' relegation from the top league in 1993. The club experienced promotion and immediate relegation twice more during the 1990s and also missed out on Premier League survival in 2005 by just eight minutes. The 2018/19 season marked the club's sixth consecutive season in the top tier, while the start of the decade had brought near-extinction before a last-minute buyout. With the right tactics, more good years could be just around the corner - so don't miss out on the opportunity to buy or sell Crystal Palace FC tickets on StubHub!
