Daliso Chaponda Tickets
The son of a politician, Daliso Chaponda is Malawian by birth. He is a stand-up comedian and an award-winning science fiction writer. Chaponda began telling jokes at stand-up gigs in Canada as early as 2001. He later moved to the Republic of South Africa to further his career, before relocating to the UK.
Chaponda subsequently established himself as a regular on the comedy club circuit in the UK, appearing alongside many other comedians who have since gone on to become household names. The comedian took part in the Big Value shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007, for example, but never picked up any national tours in his own right or gained any TV work. That changed in 2017, when Chaponda entered a UK-wide talent competition and ended up coming third in a public vote. Since that time, Chaponda has written a comedy show for BBC radio. He also performs as the headline act in venues all over the country.
Daliso Chaponda's breakthrough
Although Chaponda had enjoyed considerable success with his one-man show during his time in Canada, he had failed to establish himself in the public's imagination in the UK. Chaponda had some good platforms on which to showcase his comic style. As well as performing in Edinburgh, he had taken part in comedy festivals in cities such as Melbourne, Singapore and Cape Town.
During the 2017 season of the ITV show Britain's Got Talent, Chaponda took an open audition alongside many amateur comedians and other types of performer. However, his superior material, observational style and comic timing allowed him to stand out from all of the other acts. Chaponda famously won a golden buzzer, which meant that he progressed through to the show's semi-finals unhindered. The comedian responded to this success by performing some innovative material, and he ultimately went on to take part in the show's final. The Manchester-based comedian lost out to a musician, who scooped the top prize, but had firmly established himself as a comedian that the public responded to enthusiastically. He was praised by the judges as being the funniest comedian to have ever appeared on the show.
Daliso Chaponda's comedy shows
Since Chaponda performed so successfully on Britain's Got Talent, he has gone on to write new material and to hone his act. He embarked on a UK-wide tour with other comedians in 2017, including a couple of sell-out nights in Birmingham. His 2018 tour visited cities such as London, Belfast and Exeter, among many others. He continues to write science fiction, mysteries and fantasy fiction, as well as performing live.
