What was the most memorable Dartmouth Big Green football game?The “Fifth-Down Game” is probably the best-known game in Dartmouth Big Green football history. The 1940 contest between Dartmouth and rival Cornell was 3-0 in Dartmouth’s favor with less than a minute left in the game. Cornell ran four plays inside the ten-yard line ending in an incomplete pass. A linesman incorrectly called the first down and allowed Cornell to run one more play. Cornell scored and was declared the winner on the field. Later, after reviewing the game films, Cornell forfeited the game to Dartmouth.
