Dartmouth is frequently a contender in the ECAC, winning the conference tournament during the 2005-06 season. The Big Green also has a great track record of nurturing young talent. In recent years, several Big Green players have made it to the NHL. Ben Lovejoy, Tanner Glass and David Jones all played their college hockey in Hanover. Where does Dartmouth's Big Green hockey team play its home games?Dartmouth plays their home games at Thompson Arena. This building dates to 1975. It was designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, who is perhaps best known for his work on the buildings constructed for the Rome Olympics. Thompson Arena is the home of men's and women's hockey at Dartmouth. Before that, he was the head coach at Ivy League rival Brown University for nine seasons. Gaudet played his college hockey at Dartmouth, graduating in 1981. During the 1980 and 1981 seasons, Dartmouth won the Ivy League and went to the Frozen Four. Since becoming head coach of the Big Green, he's led the team to two 20-win seasons. Gaudet's assistant coaches are David Lassonde, John Rose and Brian McCloskey.
What conference do the Dartmouth Big Green play in?Dartmouth's Big Green hockey team plays in the ECAC conference. This conference got started during the 1961-62 season. Since the beginning, it's been home to some of the best developmental hockey in the world. Hockey legends like Ken Dryden played for ECAC teams during their college years. It includes several of Dartmouth's fellow Ivy League schools, like Brown, Cornell and Yale. The ECAC features very competitive hockey. In the past 15 years, ECAC teams have featured over 150 NHL draft picks. This is a great conference for developing top-level talent.
