Daughter tour dates
It's rare to hear a group that can be easily classified as both folk rock and electronic. However, that's what British indie group Daughter has done extremely well - taken two often incompatible genres and blended them into a seamless sound that is catchy, soulful and appealing to a wide variety of music listeners. The brainchild of Elena Tonra, Daughter was formed in 2010 and rose to acclaim in a short few years - eventually touring the world and finding critical and commercial acclaim across the UK, US, Australia and beyond.
Lead singer of Daughter, Elena Tonra, was London-born and raised. In her early teens, she began performing solo with an acoustic guitar at music venues across the city. Eventually, Tonra decided to join forces with Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella to create Daughter, choosing to incorporate electric guitars with Tonra's distinctly acoustic sound in order to create a distinct, but widely appealing sound. In April of 2011, the group released their first EP, called His Young Heart. Later the same year, after being signed by the label Communion, they released their second EP, The Wild Youth. This got the attention of music critics and audiences across the UK, and they were invited to perform in a Maida Vale Session by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens. In 2012, the band signed with the label 4AD, and they released their first full, studio-length album, If You Leave. The record did well commercially and critically, charting at Number 16 in the UK and winning the Independent Album of the Year Award at the AIM Independent Music Awards. After the release of their first album, they created their second full-length album, Not to Disappear. The band mixed the album in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in New York, and they released it in 2016.
Daughter Career Milestones
Both of Daughter's full-length albums were well received by both the public and critics. Their first album, If You Leave, charted at number 50 in Australia, 16 in the UK and 97 in the US. After the release of that album, the band enjoyed an extensive tour throughout Europe, the US and Asia. Their second album, Not to Disappear, charted at number 26 in Australia, 17 in the UK and 80 in the US. In addition to their chart success, the band also had their song "Home" featured in the movie How I Live Now and their song "Youth" featured in an advertisement for the Tour de France.
