Each David Bromberg tour includes several intimate performances in coffee houses and small restaurants, where he interacts with fans on a more personal level.
A product of Greenwich Village's thriving 1960s folk scene, David Bromberg studied guitar with the Reverend Gary Davis, who introduced the young musician to the fingerpicking for which he is currently best known. Several years later, Bromberg began what would ultimately become a highly successful career with Columbia Records. During this time, he contributed to several other artists' album recordings, including Jerry Jeff Walker's Mr. Bojangles and The Eagles' One of These Nights. He has also worked with the likes of Emmylou Harris and George Harrison. Live performances have constituted a significant part of his career, whether appearing solo or with the David Bromberg Big Band.
Bromberg is as passionate about instrument creation and repair as he is about recording new music and performing old hits. He first learned how to make violins during a career transitioning phase in Chicago. Now, he and his wife, Nancy Josephson, own a popular violin sales and repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware. Thoroughly dedicated to the Wilmington community, Bromberg is a top donor for the Grand Opera House and is heavily involved in the music scene of World Cafe Live at The Queen.
Bromberg has produced several significant singles and albums over the years. His most critically acclaimed album is Wanted Dead or Alive, which includes such hits as "The Holdup," "The New Lee Highway Blues" and "Send Me to the 'Lectric Chair." These and other hits are featured on Bromberg's best-of album Out of the Blues.
A versatile performer, David Bromberg consistently wows audiences with his musical talent and relaxed stage presence. He performs aside his trusted quintet, which possesses a camaraderie as effortless as his interactions with the audience. Although he devotes a significant portion of his concerts to original material, he also enjoys playing covers of Sonny Boy Williamson and Bessie Smith hits.
