Are there new events in the Days of 47 Rodeo?Yes. As of 2019, breakaway calf roping gained great interest as a new event that demonstrates speed and roping skill without the dismount and tie-down of the calf. Jordi Edens won the first-ever gold medal in breakaway roping at the Days of 47 Rodeo with her time of 2.58 seconds to take the prize over 18-time world champion Jackie Crawford.
Who are some notable contestants in the Days of 47 Rodeo?Tie-down roper Ty Harris ranked 12th in his field in 2019 and took home $50,000 with his winning time of 7.6 seconds to rope a calf to a standstill, dismount and tie three of its legs while his horse stands firm. In bulldogging, that is also called steer wrestling, Matt Reeves earned $50,000 and a gold medal with his time of 3.92 seconds to rope a steer, dismount and grab the horns to subdue the animal.
Where do the animals come from?Livestock providers such as Bar-T Rodeo and Northcott Macza truck over their buckingest broncos and most powerful bulls to supply superior livestock in the competition. How is the competition selected?Trial events from Wisconsin westward to the Pacific Ocean springboard successful entrants to the Days of 47 Rodeo. One trial ran in 2017 in Eagle Mountain, Utah, as it combined with the town's Pony Express Days rodeo that was sanctioned by the Women's Professional Rodeo Association and the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association.
