A winner of the HiPipo Music Awards among many others, Diamond Platnumz is one of the foremost Tanzanian musical performers of his generation. Born in 1989 as Naseeb Abdul Juma, the artist is equally known as Diamond and Diamond Platnumz, since he uses both monikers as his stage name. A bongo flava artist, the singer and songwriter is best known in Europe for his song “Number One”, which featured the Nigerian artist, Davido. Among the musician’s most notable achievements in his home country is the number of downloads his tracks have received for ringtones on mobile phones. He has broken Tanzanian records for his songs in this area of music sales.
Diamond Platnumz' musical background
Originally from Kigoma in Tanzania, Diamond Platnumz took an interest in music from an early age. He was educated at Nasibu Chakula Bora Nursery School before going on to attend the Tandale Magharibi School in 1996. As a child, Juma would listen to many international artists from his mother’s record collection. He also listened to many local artists working on the Tanzanian music scene at the time. For a while, Juma’s mother would enter the young performer into various talent contests as he continued to build up his confidence as a stage musician when he entered his teenage years.
As well as being a singer, Diamond Platnumz is an accomplished piano and guitar player. In addition, the performer is known for his dancing, which is very much a part of his act. Mixing bongo flava with afro-pop and elements of hip-hop, Diamond Platnumz began performing on a professional basis in 2009, having developed his own sound.

As well as taking to the stage in his home country and all over East Africa, Diamond Platnumz has made numerous television appearances over the years. He was, for example, a performer at the Big Brother Africa closing ceremony in its seventh season. His videos have also been viewed hundreds of thousands of times via social media platforms.
Diamond Platnumz has won many plaudits from his fellow musicians and music business professionals over the years. These include the MTV Africa Music Awards, for example, for which he has received five nominations and achieved the top prize on one occasion. He has also won the African Muzik Magazine Award before, as well as winning the Tanzania Music Awards on no less than 17 occasions. In May 2014, the singer took an unprecedented seven prizes at his country’s music awards ceremony. These included the top spot for Best Male Artist, Best Song Writer and Best Male Entertainer of the Year, to name but three.
