Despite gaining popularity, the band broke up in 2015, saying that the members needed to be able to spend more time with their families. The Dirty Guv'nahs Needed a KickstartIn its time as a band, The Dirty Guv'nahs has cultivated a dedicated following that packs its concerts and clamors for more music. Since The Dirty Guv'nahs is an independent band, it does not have a major label absorbing the costs of recording its records. In 2011, the members decided that they wanted to create a new album, but they needed funding to make that happen. The band put the fate of its next album into the hands of loyal fans and began a Kickstarter campaign to fund the record. They set a goal of raising $20,000 and smashed that goal in less than three days. The band raised a total of $36,217 before the campaign ended. With this money, the band recorded its 2012 album, Somewhere Beneath These Southern Skies.
