Doja Cat background
Doja Cat was born Amala Zandile Dlamini. She grew up in Los Angeles where her father worked as an actor, composer, and film producer. As a child, she took piano and dance lessons, nurturing her creative side and developing skills that she could utilize as a professional musician and performer.
Her debut single, "So High," was released in 2013. In 2014, she signed with RCA Records and released an EP entitled "Purrr!" Online releases have been key in her success as Soundcloud, YouTube, and Spotify are sites through which many fans have gotten to know her music.
In February 2018, she released the single "Roll with Us", and then another single was made available a month later. These were both released in anticipation of her studio album Amala. In these songs, she has vibrant beats, clever lyrics filled with double entendre, and sweet melodies that are juxtaposed with hints of hip-hop. Her music videos are equally colorful and quirky, and it seems as if she has received just as much fame from her videos as from her audio tracks.
