Drexel Dragons Basketball TicketsThe Drexel Dragons organization has been taking to the basketball court since 1894, when it became Philadelphia's sixth sports team. The program has had its share of moments in more than a century of play. Drexel has won almost 1,300 games in school history, and the school has had its share of big wins over the year over top schools. For example, the Dragons beat a Navy squad that was led by all-time great David Robinson in 1987. Drexel currently competes in the Colonial Athletic Association, having joined the conference in 2001. The Dragons squad plays against teams such as Towson University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington and Hofstra. Drexel is known as a school that mixes strong academics with its athletic program and that has a reputation for the academic strength of many of its student athletes. You can experience Drexel Dragons' basketball when you purchase your tickets at StubHub.
Who are the most notable players in Drexel Dragons history? The team's history includes two retired numbers. The first was that of Michael Anderson, who became the first Drexel player ever to appear on an NBA roster. He led the Dragons to its first NCAA bid. Malik Rose is the other player to have his jersey retired. Rose led the Dragons to three straight NCAA tourneys before having a 13-year NBA career as a reserve big man. When Rose graduated, he was the second all-time leading rebounder in NCAA history.
Who are the Dragons' biggest rivals? While Drexel is not an official part of the Philadelphia Big Five, the team frequently plays against the other Philadelphia schools. The team has a strong rivalry with the University of Pennsylvania as the two schools are right next door to each other in West Philadelphia. Their rivalry is called "the Battle of 33rd Street." In the Colonial Athletic Association, Drexel's proximity to the University of Delaware makes the two schools natural rivals. Drexel executed the largest comeback in Division I history against the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens in 2018.
What is the Drexel Dragons' postseason history?Drexel has played in the NCAA Tournament four times in school history. The school posted its lone NCAA Tournament victory by upsetting Memphis in 1996, advancing to the second round of the tournament. That was the last time that Drexel made the Big Dance. In recent years, the Dragons team has played well during the CAA regular season but has not gotten over the hump to advance in the NCAA Tournament. The Dragons men's basketball team has played in the National Invitation Tournament several times recently.
Where does the Drexel Dragons team play its home games? The Dragons play at Daskalakis Athletic Center, which is a small and intimate venue on Drexel's campus. The arena seats 2,509 spectators. Drexel has invested heavily in recent years in upgrading the arena to improve the fan experience. The size of the venue makes all of the seats close to the court, and the building can get loud.
What was the Drexel Dragons' record last season?Drexel finished with a 13-20 record in 2018-2019. Drexel started the season with a hot hand in conference play before falling back at the end of the CAA slate. The Dragons squad is trying to gain traction under Coach Zach Spiker, who is in his fourth year at the helm of the Dragons. Drexel is currently in a rebuilding mode and iswaiting to take the next step forward, but it has the 2019 CAA Rookie of the Year on its roster in Camren Wynter.
