Bringing together the best in music, camping and beer, the Dry Diggings Festival takes place in Placerville, California. Highlighting beer and creative expression, this two-day event is both unique and family-friendly. From beer pong tournaments to craft vendors, this festival is anything but ordinary.
With past performances by Matisyahu, Rebelution, The Expendables, and Collie Buddz, it's the perfect combination of chill vibes, live music and craft beer, with a picturesque backdrop to match. Being the brainchild of Jeff Monser, the founder of the Cali-Roots festival, the Dry Diggings experience continues to expand.
Dry Diggings Festival's history
Kicking off the festival in 2015, the Dry Digging Festival takes place east of Sacramento and west of Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Highlighting the talents of over 20 artists and musicians each year, this festival also focuses on unique crafts, amazing food and a great selection of the finest beers in the region.
In order to enhance the camper's experience, the California Roots team developed a number of activities, including free beer tasting, a brewery knowledge zone and cornhole tournaments. After its first successful year, the Dry Diggings Festival returned, announcing performances by Passafire, Fortunate Youth, and more.
The first year, J Boog's breakthrough hit, "Let's Do It Again," was a crowd favorite, as well as "Lay Me Down' by The Dirty Heads. By 2017, the festival had grown, featuring 25 bands and four DJs. Referred to as a 'lifestyle festival' -- the interactive vendor village, skateboarding competition and on-site camping create a unique experience.
Dry Diggings Festival's performances
With acts spread out across two days each year, the lineup has grown in terms of its size and popularity. After all, the initial goal was to book headlining talent, while creating an almost 'backyard party' atmosphere. In 2017, the music kicked off right at 10 a.m., with a mixture of hip-hop and reggae performances.
By the evening hours, high-energy performers hit the stage. After retiring to the campgrounds, attendees awake for another day of feel-good tunes, catchy lyrics, delicious food and beer. One performance that stood out in this festival's third year was the Long Beach Dub Allstars. Covering a number of Sublime songs, the performance was a perfect fit.
Based on the carefully selected combination of musicians, some of the other note-worthy performances included Mystic Roots, Mike Love, and Tribal Seeds. Enjoying the sounds of Brazilian reggae, dancehall and hip-hip, Dry Diggings' attendees appreciate the elements of soul and true artistry within each and every set.
