The Hoppers play in-season games weekly at their home diamond at Jimmy John's Field in Utica, Mich. In only their second season, the Hoppers placed second with a 28-25 record in 2017, when the Westside Woolly Mammoths onboarded the league to make four teams. Major league team scouts took notice of the Hoppers and signed pitchers Noah Gotsis and Luis Contreras in 2019. In the regular-season finale of that year, the Hoppers won 5-2 over the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers as Jahmon Taylor pitched 6 innings and first baseman Riley Mihalik hit two runs. Outfielder Pat Adams made two hits out of three at-bats with three walks. The same game saw the debut of Jahmon Taylor, who held the Unicorns scoreless as he struck out one batter while pitching in 3.1 innings. When relief pitcher Nate Sweeney threw 2.2 innings, he earned the win with the Hoppers scoring seven runs to the Unicorns five. When this July 2019 game was played, the Hoppers' record was 14-18 and the Unicorns was 17-16 for the season.
