What can I expect to see from a live ECHL All-Star Game?The ECHL All-Star Game is a 3 versus 3 exhibition tournament to be conducted in three rounds. The first round will be a round robin format with the teams competing against each other in consecutive games to determine the seed order of the second round. The second round consists of the first seed playing the fourth seed and the second seed playing the third seed. The top two teams will compete in a final third round to determine the ECHL All-Star Champion.
How are the team rosters for the ECHL All-Star Game selected?The four team rosters will be selected through voting from coaches, team captains, media relation directors, broadcasters and media members. Teams usually consist of at least one goalie, three defensemen, and six forwards. In 2019, the host team formed the members of two of the four teams. A third team is formed from All-Star players from the Eastern Conference. The fourth team is formed from players from the Western Conference.
What does the ECHL All-Star Skills Competition consist of?The ECHL All-Stars Skills Competition is one of the highlights of the ECHL All-Star Game that showcases the skills of developing minor league hockey players. While the events of the skills competition may vary by year, some examples of the skills competition include contests for the hardest shooter, most accurate and the fastest skater.
Who are some players that have been selected to play at past ECHL All-Star Games?Among the players selected for the 2019 Eastern Conference are goalie Mitch Gillam from the Worcester Railers, defenseman Dajon Mingo from the Jacksonville Iceman and forward Mike Szmatula from the Adirondack Thunder. Players from the 2019 Western Conference include goalie Tomas Sholl from the Idaho Steelheads, defenseman Alex Breton from the Allen Americans and forward Vasili Glotov from the Cincinnati Cyclones.
