The Rebels lost just three games on the year and went on to compete in the Sugar Bowl, where they took down the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a rout.
Mississippi State has quite the football program as well, and last year the team showed that to be true. State spent much of last season ranked, though they were unable to prevail in the Egg Bowl. Still, just three losses in the regular season made it possible for the Bulldogs to head to the Belk Bowl, where they fell to the NC State Wolfpack.
Egg Bowl History
The first Egg Bowl took place in 1901 in Starkville, MS. Mississippi enjoyed their home-field advantage in that contest, shutting out the Rebels for the victory. Ole Miss would return the favor the following year, shutting the Bulldogs out and evening the Egg Bowl series. A tie the next year would keep the count even, but as time went on Ole Miss took control of the series record. 1915 saw the largest margin of victory in the Egg Bowl when the Bulldogs won the game by a score of 65-0. Mississippi State dominated the matchup during that era, winning 13 consecutive meetings from 1911 to 1925.
Egg Bowl Greatest Moments
The Egg Bowl has seen many a great moment over the years, but one of the best was the 100th anniversary of this game. Ole Miss was equipped with future No. 1 pick Eli Manning at quarterback, and the Rebel legacy would power through hard rain for much of the game to lead Ole Miss to the victory.
