Ekali, born Nathan Saw in Canada, is an electronic dance music (EDM) legend in the making. He has been disrupting the EDM industry since 2014 through collaborations and inspirational original pieces. His career started to gain industry attention as a Red Bull Music Academy participant in 2014 in Tokyo. Just one year later, one of his original samples was used on a Drake song that led to a writing credit. After this, Ekali's musical career took on a life of its own. He continues to DJ, write his own music and produce music for other artists as well as to perform an Ekali tour whenever possible at festivals and clubs around the globe.
Ekali, A Rare EDM Presence
Before his Red Bull Music Academy participation, Nathan joined the group Said the Whale as a bass guitar player. The band, Shaw included, would go on to win a prestigious JUNO Award. He quickly decided he was too confined in his creative flexibility, so he began to work on his own music through software and samples and left the group in 2016. He began to release his own hits, such as "Unfaith" and "Babylon," and soon reached the No. 1 Billboard spot for R&B and hip-hop albums. His song "Blame" made the top 20 for the US Viral Charts and Global Viral Charts on Spotify. A few of his other hits include "Northmix" and "At Your Best." He is also continually working on collaborations with artists in a variety of genres, including rapper Reo Cragun, Aywy, Gravez of Jack U's Mind, Gallant and Flume and Ta-ku & Wafia. In addition to collaborations, other artists are using samples of Ekali's music, including Drake and Skrillex, and he is producing hit-making music for others. He won the 2019 JUNO Award for Electronic Album of the Year for Crystal Eyes.
