After hitting the country music scene in 2006 with his hit debut album, Sinners Like Me, Eric Church has become a force to be reckoned with in the musical world. Called "the Willie Nelson of new country" by several of the medium's most prolific performers, his hard rock and metal-inspired sound combined with his raw lyrical prowess have made him one of the most popular country musicians working today despite being less than two decades into his career. With six studio albums to date and many more singles, several of which have gained Platinum or Multi-Platinum status, there's plenty to like about Church and his distinctive sound.
From Mountain Boys to Mr. Misunderstood
Born in Granite Falls, North Carolina, Church's introduction to music came at the age of 13 when he bought his first guitar. His musical talent was obvious even from early on when he quickly began writing and performing his own songs, even finding a job playing in a local bar during his last year of high school. By college, he was performing in dive bars in the area as part of the band Mountain Boys, which consisted of his brother and two friends. The group primarily played Jimmy Buffet songs as well as some of Church's original compositions. After graduating, he moved to Nashville and finally got his big break when he wrote the 2005 songs "The World Needs a Drink" and "Whiskey Wings" for Terri Clark and Dean Miller, respectively, before releasing his debut album a year later. Ever since, he's been consistently releasing hits and touring with some of the biggest names in country.
