Fat White Family: sinister south London six-piece
Since forming in a Peckham squat in 2011, the Fat White Family have gained a reputation as one of the most unpredictable and dangerous bands in the world. Writing about everything from sex, politics and Joseph Goebbels the band have built a unique sound inspired by their hedonistic lives on the edge. Led by explosive frontman Lias Saoudi, the south London six-piece soon gained a cult underground following after a series of confrontational and memorable gigs.
Equally depraved in both their look and sound, the band's unsettling, politically-charged debut album Champagne Holocaust arrived in 2013 and was instantly hailed as one of the most original records of recent times. Full of violence, wit, sexual innuendo and a sprinkling of socialism, guitarist Saul Adamczewski's bludgeoning lo-fi riffs are matched in menace only by Saoudi's frankly perverted lyrics.
Enrapturing fans and infuriating the conservative media in equal measure, the band responded by producing a series of deeply-debauched and disturbing music videos for "Touch The Leather" and "Cream Of The Young", gleefully telling the mass media: "We want to make your skin crawl".
As if taunting their critics, 2016's follow-up record Songs for Our Mothers spawned an even darker set of tracks that explored fascism, serial killers, domestic abuse and more besides. It was promoted with a single for "Whitest Boy on the Beach", which was later chosen for the closing credits of the 2017 film T2 Trainspotting. Fat White Family: irrepressible rockers take aim at critics
Formed from the dredges of south London, the Fat White Family first came to the attention of the UK media after taking over the Brixton pub-cum-squat The Queens Head in 2012 and hanging a less than complementary banner about Margaret Thatcher outside their makeshift headquarters. Since then, the sextet – featuring lead singer Lias Saoudi, guitarist Saul Adamczewski, Lias's younger brother Nathan on keyboard, guitarist Adam J Harmer, bassist Taishi Nagasaka and drummer Severin Black – have continuously courted controversy.
Prolific writers and tourers, the band's leading lights have also been involved in various side projects. In 2015, Saul Adamczewski and Lias Saoudi collaborated with Adrian Flanagan and Dean Honer of experimental band Eccentronic Research Council on their album Johnny Rocket, Narcissist & Music Machine... I'm Your Biggest Fan.
After its release, the foursome form a new band: the Moonlandingz, which has gone on to garner a cult following similar to that of the Fat White Family. The act ended up touring together, as well as working with Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, Phillip Oakey, Randy Jones and Slow Club frontwoman Rebecca Taylor, resulting in the 2017 release of their debut album, Interplanetary Class Classics.
However, with new Fat White Family material released in the form of single "Breaking into Aldi" and a third album close to completion, don't miss your chance to see the baddest band in the world live on their next tour – buy Fat White Family tickets at StubHub UK.
