Experience first class Dutch football with FC Groningen
Despite having only carried the name since 1971, FC Groningen looks back on a long history as one of the Netherlands' biggest and most successful football clubs. Playing at home in the atmospheric Euroborg stadium, the team enjoys a position in the Eredivisie, Dutch football's highest league. A must for any fan of Dutch or European football, tickets for FC Groningen can be purchased or sold on StubHub.
Cheer on the FC Groningen players
FC Groningen spent much of the 20th century being called GVAV. Founded as Unitas in 1915, it became known as GVAV after just two years and rapidly shot to fame as the northern Netherlands' best football team, overcoming Groningen's other home teams, Velocitas and Be Quick. From 1951, when the Dutch premier division was created, FC Groningen played at the very top: the Eredivisie. A name-change in 1971 was necessitated by financial problems, but the club's auspicious new start was marred by a fatal accident involving star goalkeeper Tonny van Leeuwen. It took a few years for the club to bounce back but since the '80s, FC Groningen has been a force to be reckoned with in European football, as well as a training ground for both national and international football talent. FC Groningen players who have made sporting headlines include the likes of Arjen Robben, Erik Nevland, Bruno Silva and Luis Suarez. FC Groningen tickets are among the hottest in Dutch football these days and promise matches of unparalleled talent and entertainment.
FC Groningen: The Pride of the North
Perhaps because it has always been larger than most teams in the region, FC Groningen didn't historically have many local rivals. FC Groningen vs FC Emmen, the North's considerably smaller but increasingly tough-to-beat team, is always one of the highlights of the season. AFC Ajax and FC Twente are considered to be major rivals by the club's supporters, though the teams don't regularly meet each other in any traditional derby games. This honour goes to SC Heerenveen, who meet FC Groningen in an annual match referred to as The Derby of the North. The first FC Groningen stadium, Oosterpark, was left in 2005 for the more modern Euroborg stadium, which at just over 22,000 seats was nearly twice the size of the original. Known for its atmosphere and the predominantly green colour scheme (the club's colours are green and white), the stadium is a fantastic place to watch any of the team's home matches. Whether you're looking for the privacy of a box, a seat in the stands where you can truly get involved in the action or even to cheer with the fans at an away game, you can buy or sell your FC Groningen tickets on StubHub now.
