Fiddler on the Roof originally premiered at the Imperial Theatre on Sept. 22, 1964, and was instantly a huge success that garnered 10 Tony Awards including best acting awards for the lead roles played by Zero Mostel and Maria Karnilova. Sheldon Harnick created the lyrics while the musical score was composed by Jerry Bock for the original debut, and Jerome Robbins handled direction and choreography. The material was a bit dated, and some interested parties had their reservations about its potential success at first due to the racially charged circumstances it represents. The tale they created became a runaway smash hit that quickly was considered a classic, and it has been retold again and again both on and off-Broadway to thousands of adoring fans for decades. The Fiddler on the Roof Rises to Greatness
When the musical classic Fiddler on the Roof made its debut, the story was the first time such sensitive issues as the love of tradition, culture and family being challenged by modern practices and progressive thought had been produced into a live show. The persecution of Jews by Germany during WWII was still relatively fresh on the minds of the people, and investors were a little unsure how the endeavor would be viewed in the public eye. Since that time, it has seen a history of renown on Broadway with a record 3242 performances that won it a Tony Award for Broadway’s longest run at the time. It became a motion picture in 1971 and was awarded an Oscar, which is the highest award possible in film. Despite its unsure beginning, it quickly became ranked among the most successful productions to ever be given the stage on Broadway.Where can I buy Fiddler on the Roof Baltimore tickets?
