Fiddler on the Roof first debuted in 1964 at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. It later made its Broadway appearance at the Imperial Theatre on September 22, 1964, running for over 3,242 performances. Originally choreographed and directed by Jerome Robbins, Fiddler on the Roof has had many revivals and national tours throughout the years. The U.S. revival tour of Fiddler on the Roof was launched in 2018.

Tony winner Bartlett Sher directs the new production. The same production team from the 2017 Tony Award winner for best play, Oslo, is producing the revival. A classic retelling of the story of Tevye in Imperial Russia, the story celebrates the relationship between family life and love. The Fiddler on the Roof U.S. tour has previously played at Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo.

Fiddler on the Roof became the first musical to have over 3,000 performances. It held the record for the longest-running Broadway musical until the production of Grease. It is the 16th longest-running show in the history of Broadway. The original production won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score, Direction and Choreography. There is also a full-length feature film of the same name in 1971 that went on to win three Academy Awards. This notoriety has even led Fiddler on the Roof to become a popular production for school and community theater groups.
