Constructed in 1989, the Fifth Third Arena was called the "Myrl H. Shoemaker Center" until the new name took over in 2005 in honor of the popular bank. This 12,012-person arena is home to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball and volleyball teams. It was also home to the NCAA Mideast Women's Basketball Regional in 1999 and the 1994 Great Midwest Conference men's and women's basketball tournament in 1994. It will likely be home to more tournaments since recent renovations have been completed. Seats for basketball games sold out in record numbers for the 2018-2019 season.
