About Finding Neverland
Before J.M. Barrie created Peter Pan, he struggled as a playwright. The musical begins with Barrie searching for inspiration after his most recent play receives dismal reviews. One day, on a walk through London’s Kensington Gardens, he encounters a widow and her four young boys. The boys’ make-believe adventures get his imagination working. Fascinated by the boys, he meets the family regularly at the park, all to the disapproval of his wife. He befriends their mother and becomes like a father to the boys. Their imaginative minds inspire his newest play.
Barrie sets out to write a play that will amaze the London audiences. Filled with inspiration, he writes despite the collapse of his marriage. He completes the play about the young boys and the magical land where no one ever grows up and convinces a hesitant producer to stage it. On opening night, they invite boys from the area to see the play to connect with his audience. The show, Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Never Grew Up, wins the hearts of the children and adults in the audience. As he enjoys a rousing success, he finds himself in crisis as tragedy strikes. In a race against time, he finds himself going deeper into Neverland, where hope and youth are forever.
