Firefall initially kicked into existence as a musical collaboration between Rick Roberts and Jock Bartley, two American musicians that first crossed paths while touring around the New York City area. Both natives of Colorado, the two began jamming together on the local Colorado music scene, eventually enlisting the help of Mark Andes and Larry Burnett to form a full four piece music outfit. The four would officially come together in 1974 and dub themselves Firefall, and hit the local Colorado music scene to finely hone and craft their unique musical style.
The band soon recorded their demo tape and began distributing it to major record labels, eventually catching the eyes and ears of executives at the Atlantic A&R label. The execs offered Firefall their first ever major recording deal, and the band made their way to Miami, Florida to record their debut LP. The album immediately was certified gold for sales, making it one of Atlantic's fastest selling records to date, and the band immediately hit the tour road alongside rock legend such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Doobie Brothers, Electric Light Orchestra, the Band, Willie Nelson, and Fleetwood Mac. The band's follow up album was equally as successful, with the band embarking on yet another whirlwind North American tour that took them to the farthest corners the United States had to offer.
The band went through considerable lineup changes in the early 80s, and soon were at their wits end as obligations placed on them by their record label and an unending tour schedule helped foster rifts between bandmates. The band would keep a low profile through the late 80s, and it wouldn't be until the mid 90s that they signed with Redstone Records and were able to reignite their music careers. Now with an assortment of twelve full length albums marking their decade spanning discography, the Firefall music sensation continues to jam on as they retain their position at the forefront of the soft country rock world.
The band's debut self-titled full length would drop in 1976, a well rounded tome of soft rock greatness that featured 40 minutes of non stop musical perfection. The album dropped on the Atlantic record label and garnered a near perfect 4.5 out of 5 star rating from AllMusic, the album featured an Andes/Bartley/Burnett/Clark/Roberts lineup alongside special guests David Muse and Joe Lala, who featured on assorted instruments for various tracks. The album spawned several key pieces of the early Firefall music catalogue, including "You Are the Woman", "It Doesn't Matter", "Livin' Ain't Livin", "Cinderella", and "Dolphin's Lullaby", with the band scoring multiple top charting singles on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and US Adult Contemporary music charts.
That band's 1977 follow up Luna Sea would again wow and amaze, with the band living up to considerable expectations in an album that would feature a coveted 4 out of 5 star rating from the critics at AllMusic. The album spawned the #1 charting hit "Remember I Love You", and also feature a medley of Firefall classics such as "So Long", "Just Think", "Getaway", and "Only a Fool".
Firefall has experienced numerous lineup changes over the years, especially during its tumultuous years over the course of the late 80s and early 90s. Today, the lineup consists of early members Jock Bartley and Mark Andes, and also enlists the talents of Sandy Ficca, Steven Weinmeister, Chris Ball, David Muse, and Jace Hill,
