Named for its location in downtown Minneapolis, what became First Avenue was originally a Greyhound bus station that opened in 1937. Its life as a nightclub began in 1970, at first named the Depot, then cycling through other names before being christened by its current name on New Year's Eve 1981. Serving as the home stage for many well-known Minneapolis-based acts such as the Replacements, Soul Asylum and HŸsker DŸ, First Avenue is best known for being the setting for the live concert scenes in the iconic 1984 film Purple Rain, which launched Prince and his band the Revolution into superstardom. Today, the venue hosts national acts such as GWAR and Son Volt. Find the best tickets for First Avenue events at StubHub.
