Five Finger Death Punch is a Las Vegas heavy metal band that built one of the most consistent commercial runs in modern metal. Founded in 2005 by guitarist Zoltan Bathory and drummer Jeremy Spencer, the group took its name from classic martial arts cinema and recruited vocalist Ivan Moody from Denver-based outfit Motograter. Their self-produced debut, The Way of the Fist, landed in 2007 and sold over 500,000 copies in the United States. The follow-up, War Is the Answer, debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 in 2009 and crossed one million copies sold, earning Platinum certification from the RIAA. That trajectory never really slowed. American Capitalist (2011) also reached Platinum status, and both volumes of The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell (2013) peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. Got Your Six (2015), And Justice for None (2018), F8 (2020), AfterLife (2022), and Legacy (2026) continued the streak, bringing the band's catalog to ten studio albums.
Five Finger Death Punch's sound sits at the intersection of groove metal, alternative metal, and hard rock. AllMusic's Thom Jurek described their approach as "equal parts melodic and meaty guitar riffs, fat vamps, catchy hooks, tight, flashy solos, and hard-grooving bass and drums." Moody's vocals alternate between aggressive screaming and polished clean singing, a combination that gives the band range across crushing anthems and emotionally charged ballads alike. The group cites Pantera, Iron Maiden, and Voivod among their core influences, with Moody pointing to vocalists like Mike Patton, Phil Anselmo, and Layne Staley as formative to his style.
Five Finger Death Punch tickets regularly deliver an intense, high-energy experience. The band has been a staple at major festivals including Mayhem Festival (2008, 2010, 2013) and Download Festival (2009, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017), and has toured alongside Korn, Disturbed, Papa Roach, and Megadeth. Their collaboration with Rob Halford of Judas Priest on "Lift Me Up" and the multi-artist recording of "Blue on Black" with Brian May of Queen, Brantley Gilbert, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd reflect the band's broad reach across the hard rock and metal world.
