Twigs: Sticking With It
FKA Twigs was born Tahliah Debrett Barnet in Gloucestershire, England. Her ancestry is Jamaican, Spanish and English. She found an interest in performing as a teenager, leaving home when she was 17 to explore dancing full time. Her efforts paid off, as she could be seen in the background of music videos from many prominent artists, including Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and Kylie Minogue. During her time as a dancer, she looked into making music of her own. Her first two releases, the self-released EP1 and EP2, via Young Turks, helped her get off the ground. EP2 was particularly acclaimed for its captivating quality and cutting-edge production, courtesy of Arca. Even further acclaim came with the release of her full-length debut, LP1. This album was lauded as one of the best of its release year, 2014, by critics. It also included the popular single "Two Weeks" and was given a nomination for Best Recording Package at the 2015 Grammy Awards. Another EP followed in 2015, the well-received M3LL155X (pronounced "Melissa"). New music has been sparse since then, but Twigs has maintained her following.
