Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, is one of the league's premier venues, costing $500 million to build at the time of construction. Set in downtown Detroit, Ford Field was built to give fans the best views of any venue in the NFL, with the upper levels closer to the field than any other stadium. Originally planned as an outdoor stadium, Ford Field offers fans plenty of natural light, through skylights, offering fans an incredible game day experience. Opening in 2002 as a part of a complex that includes the picturesque Comerica Park, home of Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers, Ford Field is known for its incorporation of the 1920's era Hudson Warehouse. The warehouse houses 132 suites, shops and amazing restaurants, and adds a piece of Detroit history to the new, modern center of downtown Detroit. Besides the regular season games for the Lions, Ford Field has hosted many great events, including Super Bowl XL in 2006, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks. Hosting a Super Bowl is an enormous boon for a city, especially in a cold weather climate. Ford Field saw a record 80,000 fans attend WrestleMania 23 at the stadium.
