The Fordham Rams make up the football program at Fordham University in New York. The team played its first game in 1882. Back then, the game of football was played quite differently from the sport that fans know and love today, but Fordham was able to win its first bout against Seton Hall by scoring a single goal. The latter school dropped football from its roster of sports in 1982. At the turn of the century, the main rivals to Fordham were Catholic schools such as Villanova and Georgetown. During the 1920s, the Fordham Rams made major improvements to the team. Starting in 1929, the Rams maintained a winning streak of 14 straight seasons, playing games to huge crowds of more than 50,000 fans. The team kept up this level of success until the football program at Fordham took a break in 1942. Fordham placed in the top 20 during the first national poll.
