The Fox Performing Arts Center began life as the Riverside Fox Theatre in 1929. Located at the intersection of Mission Inn Avenue and Market Street in Riverside, approximately 55 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the theater was a vaudeville and movie palace. Often used by Hollywood studios for sneak previews to gauge audience reactions, it was the site of the first public screening of Gone With the Wind in 1939. Its present incarnation as a performing arts facility began in January of 2010 when the city of Riverside completed a 30-million-dollar restoration. Fox Performing Arts Center events since then have covered an extensive range of entertainment. Audiences have enjoyed Broadway musicals such as A Chorus Line and Rent and screenings of classic and family films.
