Held every year in March, the Gasparilla Music Festival showcases some of Tampa's most prominent music talent as well as emerging acts. The event features a variety of music genres in one diverse and eclectic event. The festival is held over two days on the second weekend in March. The bands play at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, which is a venue that is located on the waterfront in downtown Tampa. Each day of the festival is a celebration of music with bands playing on many different stages. There are literally dozens of musical acts performing over the course of the two days. Nearly all of the musical performers are local to the Tampa and St. Petersburg areas. Gasparilla: The Hub of the Tampa Music Scene

The festival was established to promote music in Tampa. The event is a nonprofit festival that is intended to support music and music education. Proceeds from the sale of Gasparilla Music Festival tickets go toward the Recycled Tunes program that is devoted to providing access to music for impoverished children in Tampa. Recycled Tunes gives these children musical instruments and education. The Gasparilla Music Festival was founded in 2011 by the Ring of Fire, a group of local professionals and music enthusiasts.
