Georgia Tech first fielded a football team in 1872 known as The Blacksmiths. Over the next century, the team name evolved to The Yellow Jackets, sometimes known as The Ramblin’ Wreck, and it amassed one of the most successful long-term records in college football. Early in the 1900s, famous coach John Heisman led the Yellow Jackets through 16 no-loss seasons, including five straight wins against arch-rivals the Georgia Bulldogs. Coach Bobby Dodd established a new record for wins against Georgia in the early 1950s, with an eight-game winning streak. The Jackets are four-time national champions and claim 16 conference titles. They were the first team to compete in all four major bowl games: the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Cotton Bowl Classic and the Sugar Bowl. The Yellow Jackets have produced 50 All-Americans and sent more than 150 players to the NFL, including wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
