Gettin' the Band Back Together New York TicketsGettin' the Band Back Together is a rock musical that tells an original story of middle-aged businessman, Mitch Papadopolous. After being fired from his job, Mitch returns to his hometown and reunites with an old band to pursue a childhood dream. Together with his old friends and bandmates, which include a math teacher, a dermatologist and a police officer, Mitch must compete in the Battle of the Bands against his old high school nemesis. Rock OutGettin' the Band Back Together began with an idea from producer and book writer Ken Davenport, whose previous credits included Kinky Boots, Groundhog Day, Macbeth, The Bridges of Madison County and The Play That Goes Wrong. Davenport, who was 40 at the time of the show's conception, based the story partly on his own ambitions to become a rock star. He spent four years writing the script through improvisational sessions with the writer-performer group Grundleshotz. Mark Allen of Tinyard Hill and Band Geek! fame was brought in to compose the music and the lyrics for the production. Gettin' the Band Back Together originally premiered at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on September 24, 2013, with a cast of Alison Fraser and Mitchell Jarvis. John Rando (the Tony-winning director of Urinetown the Musical) directed the first show, while Kelly Devine (Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages and more) provided the choreography. After additional workshops in New York, the musical opened on Broadway's Belasco Theatre on August 13, 2018. It closed on Sept. 16 of the same year after 40 performances.
