Formed in 1987, Gin Blossoms are an American rock band from Tempe, Arizona. They rose in popularity during 1992 with the release of New Miserable Experience. "Hey Jealousy" was the first single from the album, and it became a Top 25 hit. The album was deemed four times platinum by the RIAA, and it spawned several other hits from the record.
The New Miserable Experience
Gin Blossoms became a popular band in the Tempe area, and they quickly built a fanbase with their touring schedule. In 1989, the band released its first full-length album, Dusted. The original lineup included Doug Hopkins, Bill Leen, Jesse Valenzuela, Steven Severson, Chris McCann and Robin Wilson. By the early 1990s, Wilson took over the role of lead vocalist with Phillip Rhodes becoming the band's new drummer. During this time, A&M Records signed Gin Blossoms as they began to work on their first album, New Miserable Experience. It was the breakthrough album from the band. The single, "Hey Jealousy," reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song would later be certified gold. "Found Out About You" also reached the No. 25 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and it would reach No. 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The band disbanded in 1997, but they would eventually regroup in 2001. Since that time, Gin Blossoms has released Major Lodge Victory,No Chocolate Cake and Mixed Reality.
