A born musical marvel
Born in central Italy's city of Ascoli Piceno in 1969, Allevi displayed a natural attraction towards music and academia. Before rising to fame, he earned a first-class conservatory diploma both in piano and composition as well as a degree in Philosophy. His piano skills were recognized during his time spent in the military, where he played in the Italian Army's Banda Nazionale as a soloist in theatres across his home country. Once his military service came to an end, Allevi went on to perform his own piano compositions, whilst studying music therapy under Mario Corradini. Here, he discovered the great capability of music to set minds free and evoke emotions, memories, and images in the mind. In 1996, Allevi earned recognition for his musical accompaniment to the Greek tragedy, The Trojan Woman, written by Euripides. Performed at the International Festival of Ancient Drama in the historical Sicilian city of Siracusa, the piece won a special award for best scene music. A spectacular ability combined with an almost spiritual attitude towards music provides a revelatory experience at any Giovanni Allevi show. The jump to commercial recording success
Around a year after the success of The Trojan Woman, Allevi began to ponder the idea of gathering his piano compositions into a CD compilation. After moving to Milan, his work was picked up by singer-songwriter Jovanotti, who published his first album '13 Dita'. Allevi's introduction to a wider, more commercial audience came with 2005's 'No Concept' and the following year's 'Joy', both of which reached gold and platinum status. Huge concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London's cultural Southbank Centre, in addition to performances at venues in Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, and Seoul, confirmed Allevi as an international star who pushed boundaries in contemporary classical music.
